Pine Hill Business Campus Windmill Pavilion
September 21, 2012 § 1 Comment
The Windmill Pavilion on the MeadWestvaco East Edisto Pine Hill Business Campus is nearing completion. The Charleston Green steel and wood pavilion provides shelter and marks the entry to the business campus. A red roof is in the process of being installed and a white wind turbine spins on the tower since its raising on August 23. Once the roof is completed, four solar panels will be installed on top, supplementing the energy produced by the turbine. Together the wind and solar systems (which are independent of the grid) will power six LED light fixtures in the pavilion along with lighting for the main sign for the business campus. A small electrical room within the tower houses all of the electrical components for wind and solar energy production. We look forward to completion next week and a grand opening to follow.
Several team members have been integral in making this project a reality. We would like to thank first, the client – MeadWestvaco – and their fantastic team for making the project possible. The contractor RS Custom Homes has done a great job with a challenging construction task while maintaining a high standard of quality. Structural Engineer, Steve Caskie, provided structural consultation and design, helping us to come up with what has resulted in an elegant combination of wood and steel. Urban Green Energy along with Blue Imaginations provided the wind turbine and wind energy expertise while Southeast Energy Resources, LLC provided solar expertise and allowed us to add solar to the sustainable energy equation which will power the the pavilion and entry sign year round. Whew, that’s a lot of folks for a small job, but we couldn’t have done it without them, keep up the good work team!
